The Invisible War and Anti-Semitism

This is a topic that I have wanted to touch on since I started this series on the Invisible War (aka the Angelic Conflict). If you think about the Jews isn’t it strange that such a small group of people can generate such hostility from the world? What is even stranger is that the Jews should still exist as an identifiable group since they didn’t have their own nation for almost nineteen centuries. Why weren’t the Jews assimilated into the surrounding culture of the nations they settled in? Why didn’t they disappear into the dustbin of history?

I believe that both questions can be answered by the Invisible War. God himself has made promises to Israel that have yet to be completely fulfilled therefore God is going to keep Israel around until all of those promises are kept even in the smallest of details. Satan on the other hand desperately wants to make God a liar like Satan is. If Satan can destroy Israel then God is a liar making Satan and God “morally equivalent.”

The quote of Pastor Barnhouse’s that I am going to provide today does touch on some of this. However, I would like to add another quote and source material. I have found a website which has over 300 doctrines developed by the Pastor I grew Up with (R.B. Thieme, Jr.) and I think this quote from the Doctrine of Angels adds nicely to the topic:

The kingdom of darkness has waged war against the nation of Israel from its inception. Anti-Semitism originates not with humanity but with Satan and the kingdom of darkness. They promote anti-Semitism. Why? Satan does not want the Lord Jesus Christ to fulfill the four unconditional covenants to Israel in order that he might say that God doesn’t keep His promises to His people and thus discredit God. Satan also wants to prevent the millennial reign and Christ ruling bodily in and through Israel, with Israel as head of the nations.

The Doctrine of Angels

Of course this quote mentions the covenants to Israel which is a huge topic in and of itself. While I am not prepared to discuss the covenants I can link to an excellent document on the subject. Anyone who is interested in the topic should read The Eight Covenants of the Bible by Arnold Fruchtenbaum. There is a lot of good information in Dr. Fruchtenbaum’s write-up.

Now, for Pastor Barnhouse:

Satan’s Hatred of the Jews

As defeat followed defeat in the war that was now becoming very visible to man, the hatred of Satan increased. When the nations were divided at Babel and Abraham was chosen as the head of God’s people, he was told that through him and his seed all the families of the earth and all the nations of the earth — two distinct and entirely different promises — should be blessed (Genesis 12:3; 18:18). Anti-Semitism is born of this hatred of Satan for the people through whom God is going to demonstrate ultimately the triumphs of His righteous government. This phase of the battle is summarized in the Apocalypse: “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman [Israel] clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars; and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads . . . and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born” (Revelation 12:1-4). This is a vision summing up all of the struggle of Israel through the centuries. Of course, it ends in triumph as the Lord provides miraculous power to defeat the enemy. It cannot be otherwise when the plan of God is involved, and in this, as in all else, the devil once more knew the taste of dust.

The Fallen Angels Know Their End

Thus we may follow the hatred of Satan for the family of Israel. Nor should we be astonished at this. God tells us that the angels of heaven are careful students of the Bible. There are a score of words in the Greek that are translated by our word “look.” The word that is used of the angels looking at the Scriptures (I Peter 1:12), means “to stoop to a thing in order to look at it; to look at with head bowed forward; to look into with the body bent; to stoop and look into; to look carefully, to inspect curiously, as of one who would become acquainted with something.”

Should we then be surprised that the angels of Satan should be less careful students of the strategy of the one whose enemy they have become? We have just seen that demons knew that their “time” was coming. They can know this only from the Bible or from the direct announcement of God. Thus they must know that their present power over this fallen earth is one day to be wrested from them and put into the hands of the Jews who are to administer it for the Lord Jesus Christ, whom they (Israel) will then know and serve. There will be no peace established on this earth by any league, conference, alliance or union of nations until God sends the Lion of the tribe of Judah to reign through the instruments He has chosen for the administration of this earth.

Anti-Semitism is one of the most comprehensible things in human history when seen against the background of the invisible war. It is the most inevitable thing in Satan’s dealings, just as Satan’s frustration and defeat are the most inevitable in the plan of God.

Satan Works Against Israel

In line with this same strategy, we see that Satan moved David to number the people of Israel against the command of God, and thus brought wrath upon the nation. Satan led the people to follow false gods, thus bringing the curse and the dispersion which enabled Satan to work on the remnants in isolated and alien circumstances. Today, Satan works against the regathering of Israel in the land which God has sworn to them. The Arabs block them physically from possession of the land while theologically, every device is used to bury the truth in obscurity. Some hold that the Anglo-Saxon nations are the supposed lost tribes and that therefore there are no promises to the Jews. The amillenarians take all the promises that belong to the Jews and apply them to the Church, leaving the curses, as Satan likes to do, for the Jews. The cults of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh-day Adventists and others hold various theories that deprive Israel of her kingdom glories. But just as the Lord has always fulfilled His promises and kept Satan short of his goal, so He will continue faithful to the end. He will one day rule this earth through a redeemed Jewry.

Glen from my point of view, the warfare with God and satan was ended at the death burial and ressurection of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no doubt that any conflict between the 2 was put to rest. I really don’t see much of a difference when Gypsies and other minorities traveled thru Europe as they were treated much the same way. The Jews treated much the same way. Being in Europe with the Catholic Church debasing Jews, why would you think they would be treated any other way. As Paul says there is no difference between Jew and Greek.

I would say that God’s ultimate victory over Satan was assured with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Satan is not in prison and he hasn’t given up.

The treatment, actually maltreatment, of the Jews is unique in world history and it is Satanic in origin.

The is no difference between Jews and Greeks for those of us in the Body of Christ (the Church). That doesn’t mean that God has no future use for Israel and that doesn’t mean that Satan sees all of us being the same either.

When you look at what we know as the Holy Scriptures, it clearly states that the Antichrist will come into power and will rule over just about everything for a period of time. So in this, I honestly do not believe Lucifer was lying. As for Lucifer (Satan) being anti-semitic,, lol, Satan just said I will be, not that he will maintain. I am not a Satanist, I am not a Christian as these be commonly known as today. I am simply asking, If only by the holy spirit, that I gain some understanding of the context of those words of which I read on this subject and event. Sometimes, words on paper (or screen) are not enough. Things don’t always translate appropriately when it is not explained in depth and only kept simple. Some of us aren’t so simple-minded to just accept someone’s interpretation or to just believe someone has spiritual knowledge unattainable by one’s self, simply by their claim alone.

      Hello Jessica,

Thank you for stopping by. My purpose in these posts is to make information available to those who are interested. If you don’t believe any of this that is up to you. There is an electronic copy of Donald Grey Barnhouse’s book available at this link.

However I do believe that anti-semitism is doctrine of demons. We have witnessed the rise of anti-semitism again in the last few years and it will continue to gain strength. In the end it will be frustrated but not before it causes a tremendous amount of undue suffering.
